GOT TO GO TO CHICAGO

No stranger to judging the best beers in Britain, ALL BEER's Alex Barlow is preparing to single out the World's best beers at the upcoming World Beer Cup. Alex, who frequently judges SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) and CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) competitions sets off to the windy city, Chicago, to put his senses, and a selection of the World's best beers, to the test.

The judges at the World's biggest beer competition are required to taste their way through a combined total of 3500 beers, within 90 categories, submitted from 60 different countries. As the saying goes: "It's going to be a tough job, but someone has to do it" says Alex. After all, those beers are not going to judge themselves.

Alex joins a crack team of 137 judges from 29 different Nations, each an expert in the field. Alex was proud to be asked as one of the select group from the UK, which also includes the Chief Executive of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling and the head brewers of the innovative Thornbridge Brewery. Lets hope he comes back with his tastebuds intact.

TASTING FOR THE POST

ALL BEER's Alex Barlow was recently featured in an interview and article for Yorkshire's premier Newspaper, the Yorkshire Post. The piece was written for the newspaper but featured online too, with a video piece of Alex leading a tasting of 6 beers, filmed at Sheffield's newest speciality beer bar, the Sheffield Tap.

Feature editor Sheena Hastings was intrigued to find out that Sheffield was home to such a font of beer knowledge. So much so that after the interview she couldn't resist coming back four times with more questions. She even managed to get two beer recomendations to accompany her favourite dish: Tiger Prawns in Ginger.

Diane commented "It's always nice to have your work recognised" and added "it's especially pleasing that an international award managed by the French, who are known mainly for their love of wine, has recognised a book about beer."
